Frequently Asked Questions

Who is covered under this plan?

The person purchasing the insurance and any travel companions, provided they are licensed drivers and are listed on the rental agreement.

What might the rental car company charge me?

In the event the car is damaged, the rental car company may charge for the repair as well as continue charging you for the rental of the car while repairs are made, since they are not able to rent the car out to anyone else.

What does primary coverage mean and why is it so important?

Primary means that this plan pays first, regardless of whether or not you have (or have filed with) any other insurance plan. Therefore, you do not need to file a claim under your personal auto insurance (if you have such coverage).

That means that you do not risk your rates going up on your personal auto insurance solely due to filing a claim with them.

Are there limitations on what car rentals qualify for this plan?

Yes. Car rental length cannot exceed 6 months. Exotic vehicles, as listed in the description of coverage, may not be covered. For more details on terms and conditions, including exclusions, please see the Description of Coverage.

How far in advance can I purchase the plan?

Since car rentals are typically reserved within one year of pickup, this plan can only be purchased for rentals starting within a year from the date you make your insurance purchase.

If my car is stolen, do I receive reimbursement for my personal items that were in the car?

No, coverage for your personal effects is not included in this plan.

How do I file a claim?

You may either go to www.travelclaim.com, or your may call our representatives at 1-877-846-8834 or (516) 342-2500.

What documentation is needed for my claim?

A copy of police reports, accident reports from the car rental company and any receipts and invoices for charges incurred.

Is my premium refundable?

Premium is refundable up to 12:01 AM local time on the day of car rental pickup.

Will this coverage be accepted at the rental car counter?

This coverage is very similar to the Collision Damage Waiver that the car rental companies try and sell renters at the time of rental in that it provides reimbursement to the person purchasing the plan for charges incurred due to loss or damage of the rental car. It is possible that agents at the counter may try to sell you their plan so you may want to bring a copy of your description of coverage to show the coverage you purchased. If the rental car company has questions about the plan, ask them to call us at 877-846-8834 or 1-516-342-2500.

Is this plan valid in other countries?

Yes, it is. The plan will reimburse covered expenses regardless of where you are traveling or renting a car. However, please keep in mind, it is the customer's responsibility to check with the proper authority in the country in which they are renting the car to determine insurance requirements, including if additional coverage is needed, such as personal liability coverage.
